Zack Snyder's awaited sci-fi epic, Rebel Moon, will further expand its universe with a new prequel comic series, titled Rebel Moon: House of the Bloodaxe, to be published by Titan Comics in 2024.

Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon to Get Prequel Comics

The universe of Zack Snyder's forthcoming science fiction epic, Rebel Moon, is set to break through the screen's barrier and spread onto the pages of comic books. The director recently unveiled a fresh tie-in comic, Rebel Moon: House of the Bloodaxe, coming in print under the banner of Titan Comics in 2024.

Snyder announced in a tweet, "Excited to announce that the @RebelMoon universe is expanding beyond the screen with a prequel comic series. Issue 1 of REBEL MOON: HOUSE OF THE BLOODAXE will be published by @TitanComics on January 10, 2024, and available wherever comics are sold."

An email following Snyder’s announcement from Titan confirmed that this comic series would comprise four issues and serve as a prequel to the first of the two-part film, Rebel Moon. The series is to be penned by Mags Visaggio, with illustrations by Clark Bint, and colors by Francesco Segala.

Rebel Moon, a brand-new space opera, graphically illustrates a galaxy under the oppressive rule of the Mother World. The main storyline follows a young woman named Kora, played by Sofia Boutella in the film. Kora, an ex-Imperium member, now heads the resistance against the oppressive regime.

The title of the comic series draws from the characters - Darrian and Devra Bloodaxe, two resistance fighters portrayed by Ray Fisher and Cleopatra Coleman in the films. "I'm excited to collaborate with Mags to explore the rich and complex backstory of the Bloodaxe siblings," said Director Snyder. "In Rebel Moon: House of the Bloodaxe, fans will get to discover their motivation, as well as the genesis of the rebellion."

Mags Visaggio envisions the comic series as a "Shakespearean tragedy". Elaborating on it, Mags states, "It's all extremely personal, a family in conflict with its patriarch who is in conflict with himself at a moment when they need to be united. It's a story about failure and the consequences of failure."

Titan Comics' official synopsis for House of the Bloodaxe reads, "As war is looming on the horizon on the planet Shasu, the leader of the Bloodaxe family is conflicted between living up to his father's domineering legacy and maintaining the peace. It is up to him to settle the conflicts within himself, and his family, before the entire planet erupts in war."

Rebel Moon: House of the Bloodaxe #1 is expected to hit the stands under Titan Comics on January 10, 2024.

Meanwhile, Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire makes its Netflix debut on December 22nd. The upcoming comic series and the Netflix film are primed to enthrall fans of the genre, presenting them with a compelling and expanded universe to delve into.
