Oscar winner Christoph Waltz joins an impressive roster for memorable director, Guillermo del Toro's new take on the classic horror tale Frankenstein.

Waltz Waltzes Into del Toro's Frankenstein Reimagining

Christoph Waltz, the man who has perfected playing deliciously complex characters, is ready to dance a grim waltz on the steps of a new monster mansion. Yeap! He's joining Mia Goth, also known as the pearl of the indie scene, and none other than spider-slinger Andrew Garfield, all set to breathe life into Guillermo del Toro's latest reimagining of Frankenstein. The cherry on top, you ask? 'the red menace' Oscar Isaac from Dune. Role allocation? Rumours suggest Garfield ends up playing the stitchy guy himself. The director's nod of approval, though, is still in waiting.

Guillermo del Toro, the man who gave us the enchantingly eerie Pan's Labyrinth and deeply touching The Shape of Water, has had Frankenstein on the brain for a good while. Since his first encounter with the silver screen adaptation of Mary Shelley's original masterpiece back in the 1930s, del Toro desired to bring his own take on the horror classic. Yet, he knew that it was a task that required maturity and time. Now, it seems he's accumulated enough cinematic courage as he quirkily exclaimed, "Now I'm brave or crazy enough or something, and we're gonna tackle it."

The tale conjured into existence by Shelley and subsequently by James Whale in the 1930s, invariably, centers around a slightly unhinged scientist who decides to play God. The result? A mosaic of body parts and a dash of madness, creating a living, breathing entity.

Add a dash of Robert De Niro and Helena Bonham Carter in Kenneth Branagh's 1994 version, and you've got monster chills and human thrills upped a few notches. del Toro is known to weave fantastical yet horrifying tales that investigate themes of innocence, monstrousness, and familial ties, the same undertones that have been at the core of the Frankenstein story since Shelley's time.

So, when can we expect to see Waltz and co. stirring up an electrified storm on our screens? The exact release date of this Franken-celebration is yet to be announced, but we'll keep an ear to the ground and eyes on the cinematic horizon.
