Sylvester Stallone's 2022 superhero flick "Samaritan" is making a surprise comeback as a sequel on Prime Video, providing fans with another chance to see the famed actor in an unconventional superhero role.

Stallone's Superhero Film "Samaritan" Gets Unexpected Sequel

Sylvester Stallone's intriguing superhero movie "Samaritan" from 2022 is due to reappear on our screens sooner than anyone expected. According to reports from The Hollywood Reporter, Prime Video has given the green light to a sequel of the ambitious movie that saw an unconventional superhero spring back into action.

"Samaritan" introduced us to an unlikely hero, played by Stallone, who was reported to be dead following a massive fight that occurred two decades earlier. The story takes an unexpected turn when a 13-year-old boy, Sam, stumbles into a troubled situation. He is mysteriously saved by a garbage man, Joe, sparking a connection between the two. The friendship grows, and Sam starts to suspect that Joe might be the supposedly deceased superhero, Samaritan.

The exciting story line was directed by Julius Avery, known for "The Pope's Exorcist", and the screenplay was crafted by Bragi F. Schut, the writer behind "The Last Voyage of the Demeter." The movie featured a star-studded cast that included Dascha Polanco, Pilou Asbaek, Moises Arias, Martin Starr, Shameik Moore, and Henry G. Sanders.

The film arrived on Prime Video in late August 2022. Despite facing significant delays from its original 2020 release schedule, the movie made its mark by holding the top spot for global streaming for three consecutive weeks - an achievement that underlines its resounding success.

Now, news of the sequel has confirmed that Schut will once again take charge of the script, bringing his vision back to the screens. The directorial role remains open, with an announcement expected soon. Sylvester Stallone will not only return to his starring role but will also work behind the scenes, producing under his Balboa Productions banner.

In a testament to the range and depth of Schut's writing, it's worth noting that "Samaritan" was conceived by him over a decade before its first release. Initially, it was then adapted into a series of graphic novels published by Mythos Comics in 2014. Schut also proved his writing skills with the 2019 thriller, "Escape Room," and "The Last Voyage of the Demeter," popularly known as 'the movie about Dracula on a boat.'

With the sequel currently in the works, fans of "Samaritan" will no doubt be eagerly anticipating a continuation of this unique superhero story. There's no word yet on a release date, but in the meantime, anyone yet to experience the original can catch Samaritan on Prime Video. Stay tuned for more updates regarding the best Prime Video has to offer and the upcoming sequel.
