MultiVersus, the platform fighter game, is back on PS5 and PS4 with significant updates including a new engine, additional characters, and free perks for PS Plus members.

MultiVersus Returns to PS5, PS4 with Exciting Updates

MultiVersus, the engaging free-to-play platform fighter from Warner Bros. Games and Player First Games, has made a grand re-entry into the gaming scene, now downloadable on PS5 and PS4 consoles. This return is marked by a major update available through the PlayStation Store, which also allows users of the previous version to simply update their existing game.

With an aim to provide a smoother experience this time around, the game's servers are being reopened incrementally to avoid any network congestion. This careful strategy reflects an acknowledgment of past technical issues and shows the developers' commitment to ensuring a solid gaming experience.

An exciting perk for PlayStation Plus members is the availability of the MVP Pack 1, free of charge. This exclusive pack offers delightful additions including the Rare Sparkler Ringout effect and an Epic Clap Sticker Emote, adding an extra layer of fun and customization to the player's experience.

The original launch of MultiVersus took place in 2022 and opened as an open beta. It quickly rode a wave of popularity among gamers. Unfortunately, as with many games of its nature, it faced challenges including a slowdown in its update pace and reliability issues with its network code. These growing pains prompted Player First Games to pull the open beta offline in June 2023. They took this drastic step to implement significant improvements which, while disruptive, were considered essential for enriching the game’s stability and playability.

Upon its return, MultiVersus boasts substantial upgrades and enhancements. One of the standout adjustments is the shift from Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal Engine 5, promising enhanced graphics and a smoother overall performance. The introduction of a new player-versus-environment (PvE) mode dubbed "Rifts" offers the players new challenges and fresh ways to engage with the game beyond the standard player-versus-player (PvP) battles.

Reworked game mechanics now incorporate the ability to parry, an improved Perks system, and a revamp of the battle pass. These changes aim to deliver a more balanced and refined combat experience.

The addition of new characters to its roster enriches MultiVersus’ diverse lineup. The inclusion of Banana Guard, The Joker, and Jason Voorhees, with Agent Smith slated for release later in the season, ensures that players have exciting new choices for their battles. This is complemented by rewards such as a seven-day reward calendar that begins immediately upon completion of the game’s tutorial, offering free access to Banana Guard.

For those who were part of the open beta, there’s good news: they will automatically receive access to the premium battle pass if they log back into the game by June 11th. Furthermore, both new and returning players will appreciate that previous purchases and unlocks will be retained, so investments made in the game prior to the update are preserved.

With these significant updates and improvements, MultiVersus aims to reassert itself in the competitive arena of platform fighters. Player First Games has worked diligently to address the feedback and issues from the original launch, and it seems poised to provide a better, more engaging experience. Whether you're a returning player or new to the game, the revamped MultiVersus offers plenty to explore, fight, and enjoy.
