In a surprising twist of events akin to a plot from one of the beloved One Piece episodes, Jamie Lee Curtis, our favorite Halloween queen, might be swapping her deadly knife for a stethoscope to play Doctor Kureha on Netflix's rendition of One Piece.
Oh yes, Ye Scallywags! You heard it right. Jamie Lee Curtis is expressing a desire to abandon her scream queen laurels and instead get on board the fantastical pirate ship; a development as surprising as, let's say, finding out your pet parrot is really a Phoenix!
Curtis took to her Instagram to share a post of Doctor Kureha, a character known for her whimsical brilliance and tenacity in the realm of One Piece. Accompanying the picture was a stirring proclamation that she intends to lobby for the role once a fair agreement is reached to conclude the ongoing strike against AMTPT. As an Easter egg for eagle-eyed fans, Curtis clarified her ambitions and tagged Netflix's One Piece in her post.
The shared Instagram post understandably created quite a wave in the One Piece fan community. Like a stowaway monkey stealing all the ship's bananas, this unexpected development caught everyone's attention.
Jumping onboard the frenzied fan ship, One Piece co-showrunner Matt Owens replied enthusiastically to Curtis's Instagram post- "Mommy dearest, that's why we sent you that figure!". He further hinted that discussions about Curtis joining the One Piece ensemble would indeed take place once "we get what we deserve and get back to work".
In an interview, Owens unmasked his hopes of having Curtis onboard, referring to her as potential 'stunt cast'. It might as well have been revealed that his socks were made out of gold! Arguing the brilliant fit, he stressed on her alignment with Doctor Kureha's character, who is due to be introduced in One Piece's Season 2.
In the wake of her Oscar win, the One Piece writers’ room congratulated Curtis by sending her a figure of Doctor Kureha linked with a playful note – ‘Congratulations on your statue, here’s another one to put next to it. Hope to speak to you soon’. Seems like they're trying to woo her as enthusiastically as a drunken sailor would a mermaid!
Sure enough, the enthusiastic banter between Owens and Curtis, along with the growing clamor from fans, could fill up chestfuls of treasure at the 'One Piece' office.
