Veena Sud, celebrated showrunner, is leading the highly-anticipated Amazon MGM television adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s ‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’ series.

Veena Sud Takes Helm of ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’ Series

Fans of Stieg Larsson's 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' are edging closer to seeing their favorite characters inhabited anew on the small screen. After three years of waiting since the initial announcement, Amazon MGM Studios has finally moved the series into the fast lane, revealing some exciting updates on the television adaptation's progress.

The studio exclusively told Variety that Veena Sud has been assigned as the showrunner for the new series. Sud is widely known in entertainment circles for her adept handling of dark and chilling thriller adaptations. She has been associated with award-winning productions such as 'The Killing,' a series based on the Danish show ‘Forbrydelsen.' Notably, Sud also designed and executive produced the Netflix series 'Seven Seconds,' which draws inspiration from the Russian film ‘The Major.’ Her portfolio also includes writing and directing the twist-filled Blumhouse film 'The Lie' featuring Joey King.

The news of Sud's involvement in the production brings a wave of optimism after a lull since the series was first announced back in May 2020. At the time, reports suggested that the series would revolve around one of Larsson's main characters, Lisbeth Salander, an iconic figure in the trilogy. Although the studios are now withholding information about the plot, suspense is building around the character and storyline.

Salander is undoubtedly the heartbeat of Larsson's three-part book sequence. She first appeared in a Swedish-Danish film series that was based on Larsson's novels, before catching international attention in David Fincher's American version where Rooney Mara brilliantly embodied Salander. Even after Larsson's passing in 2004, Salander's character continued to grip readers' imaginations, featuring prominently in three subsequent novels written by David Lagercrantz and making an appearance in 'The Girl in the Eagle's Talons' by Karin Smirnoff, published in Sweden in October 2022.

Currently, the release date for the awaited series remains a mystery. Understandably, fans are eager to see how Sud will fuel Salander's on-screen rebirth. Nevertheless, with Sud taking the helm, the series seems to have gained momentum, and it’s likely that production is actively underway.

Until the release of the new series, fans can relive the thrill by streaming David Fincher's 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' currently available on Netflix. Those seeking more Amazon content can explore the wide array of popular shows available on Amazon Prime Video. With Sud at the wheel and the enigmatic Salander seemingly at the heart of the narrative, the new series promises to be an exhilarating watch. Stay tuned for further updates as the show blazes a trail in the television adaptation scene.
