An extensive look at the new Star Wars projects, from exciting movies about popular characters to riveting TV series, that are set to captivate audiences in the coming years.

New Star Wars Movies and Shows on the Horizon

Over the next few years, Star Wars fans have a lot to look forward to as numerous movies and shows centered on their beloved universe are currently in the works. Whether it's the rekindling of Rey’s story in a new film or delving into Lando Calrissian’s adventures, there's no shortage of exciting Star Wars content on the horizon.

One anticipated project is about Rey as she rebuilds the Jedi Order following the events of "The Rise of Skywalker." The film will be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, known for her work on the "Ms. Marvel" series. However, the scriptwriting duo originally attached to the project have exited, and Steven Knight is now fine-tuning the screenplay.

Another movie in the pipeline will take fans back thousands of years to the early existence of the Jedi. The project will be helmed by acclaimed director James Mangold who has shared his vision of creating a Star Wars biblical epic exploring the dawning of the Force. This movie will no doubt offer a deeper understanding of the origins of the Jedi Order and the Force as a whole.

Furthermore, another cinematic offering sees Dave Filoni directing a live-action Star Wars movie. This project aims to weave the narratives of the Disney Plus shows "The Mandalorian," "Ahsoka," and "The Book of Boba Fett" into a compelling cinematic event.

Fans can also look forward to an upcoming Star Wars movie directed by Taika Waititi, who plans to explore a new side of the Star Wars universe. This suggests that moviegoers can expect an infusion of fresh characters and scenarios in Waititi’s project.

However, that’s not all. Shawn Levy, known for his directorial work on "Free Guy," will also helm a Star Wars movie. Although the production will not commence until after filming wraps up on "Deadpool 3" and "Stranger Things" season 5, Levy has demonstrated his intent to commit himself entirely to developing the screenplay for this project.

On the TV series front, fans can look forward to "Lando," which will bring back Donald Glover as the charismatic hero Lando Calrissian. Glover's portrayal was widely appreciated, and audiences will be excited to explore his character further.

Perhaps one of the most captivating projects in the works is a new trilogy by "The Last Jedi" director Rian Johnson. This new saga will spotlight "new characters from a corner of the galaxy that Star Wars lore has never before explored," promising fresh narratives and settings for Star Wars fans.

Unfortunately, not all projects make it off the ground. Among the movies that have been canceled include "Star Wars: Rogue Squadron" directed by Patty Jenkins and a film envisioned by Marvel's Kevin Feige, which would have marked an interesting cross-pollination between the superhero and Star Wars universes.

Regardless of the projects that didn’t make it, there are still a plethora of Star Wars films and series on the way that promise to usher in a new era of storytelling in this iconic galaxy. From new cinematic experiences to riveting TV shows, the Star Wars universe will continue to expand and excite.
