Recent rumors suggest that Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed Codename Red may feature a female Samurai protagonist, driven by fresh leaks from one of the game's writers.

Ubisoft Leak Hints at Female Samurai in Assassin’s Creed Red

Ubisoft's forthcoming game, Assassin’s Creed Codename Red, might have a much-anticipated gender swap. As per the circulating leaks, it seems that the game could potentially offer a choice between two playable female characters. The exciting part is, one of them might turn out to be a Samurai, a role usually reserved for male characters in most of the action-packed, historical-based video games.

This rumor began spiraling downhill after Pierre Boudreau, one of Ubisoft’s game writers, made a notable change on his LinkedIn page. A keen-eyed user named chinchirroz spotted this alteration on Discord and handed it to Access The Animus, a gaming news site, which later posted the tip on their X page.

Boudreau's LinkedIn banner now teases an image of a potential female protagonist, wielding a katana, ready to strike an offensive stance. This character image stands out as it perfectly portrays a strong, ready-to-battle female Samurai, something fans have been yearning for ever since Assassin's Creed first broke into the gaming scene. It's been a long-time myth that only male ancestors lived brave lives, driving the Creed and fighting their battles. But who's to say there weren't any women down the line who could've fought for the Creed just as fiercely?

And for those doubters out there questioning the existence of female Samurai, allow me to divert your attention to the history of the Onna-Bugeisha, female warriors of the nobility in feudal Japan. The comments on Access The Animus' X post reflect divisive views, some admiring the beauty of the character, questioning her skills, while others cheekily imply the desperation of unattractive gamers.

Appearance aside, the interest is definitely piqued about this character's combat abilities. The whispers suggest that along with the katana-wielding character, there might be another playable role, a Shinobi. Insider Gaming speculates that this unconfirmed character could be an "African refugee who learned the way of the Creed."

While the suggested leak has rekindled the discussion around the much-anticipated game, it has also started a new speculation wave. Even though there is no official confirmation from Ubisoft or Pierre Boudreau, the possibility of a female Samurai protagonist in Assassin’s Creed Codename Red has definitely added another dimension to its anticipation. For now, all we can do is hope that this bread-crumb trail is not leading us into a wrong guess game. Ubisoft's silence sure fuels the suspense, leaving fans in anticipation of what's to come.
