Twitch's chief customer trust officer, Angela Hession, elaborated on the implications of such content, pointing out that although streamers often correctly labeled this content with a 'Sexual Themes' tag and were actually clothed behind objects or outside the camera's frame, the thumbnails could still be misleading or inappropriate for some users. Despite such content not being displayed on Twitch's homepage, it was still visible within the category browse directories—a section frequently visited by users seeking out new content on the platform.
The updated attire policy mandates that clothing or body coverage must be "fully opaque", thus no longer allowing sheer or partially see-through clothing. It also specifies that streams must carry proper tags corresponding to their content. For example, streamers who broadcast from pools or hot tubs will need to use the 'Pools, Hot Tubs, and Beaches' category. This adjustment also strictly speaks about the coverage required for streamers that present as women, where they are asked to cover their nipples and avoid exposing underbust—although cleavage remains unrestricted, provided the outlined coverage requirements are followed and it is apparent that the streamer is clothed.
Further to these policy alterations, Twitch developers are designing tools to enhance user experience and content filtering—like the ability to blur thumbnails for streams marked with 'Sexual Themes' and the introduction of new search filters that account for content classification label preferences.
