Nintendo has rolled out a significant update for its Switch Online exclusive game, F-Zero 99, elevating the game to Version 1.4.0. This update introduces an array of new features designed to enhance player experience and provide fresh challenges. The update includes the introduction of new festival-themed courses, a new leaderboard event, AI-controlled racers known as "Star Rivals," gameplay tweaks, and an array of customization features, including the much-anticipated emotes.
Players can now express themselves using emotes before and during races. By holding down either the L or R button and pressing one of the main buttons before the race starts, players can display an emote. This emotive feature enhances interaction, allowing players to communicate their feelings or react to the race's developments in a fun and light-hearted manner.
One of the key additions in this update is the Festival Queen League. This feature revolves around festival-themed versions of courses like MUTE CITY II, PORT TOWN I, RED CANYON I, WHITE LAND I, and WHITE LAND II, where players can collect Gem Sparks. These tracks are available only during the Festival Queen League event, which is time-limited, making each race a unique challenge.
The addition of Star Rivals brings a new layer of competition to the gameplay. Star Rivals, comprising Captain Falcon, Samurai Goroh, Dr. Stewart, and Pico from the SNES version of F-ZERO, will occasionally appear on the Festival tracks. Beating a Star Rival not only boosts the player's standing but also awards a special badge that can be used to customize Pilot Cards.
The update also streamlines the Team Battle mode by changing the previous two-team system to a five-team system with ten players each. A new Team Super Meter shared among teammates adds a cooperative element to the races. Players must collaborate to fill the meter and execute a Super Boost together, which introduces a strategical component to the team dynamics.
New customization options have been added to further personalize the gaming experience. Players can now access new Boost colors, Spin effects, and various backdrops, badges, and borders for Pilot Cards via the Workshop on the Main Menu. These items can be unlocked through participation in events, successful challenges, or achieving particular milestones during gameplay.
In terms of gameplay mechanics, adjustments have been made to the skill rating system, enhancing how much the skill rating of a player with an S-S50 rating goes up when they defeat a Rival. Additionally, variations have been introduced to the pattern of Bumpers appearing in races, adding unpredictability and excitement.
Nintendo has also planned three weekend events that include a Lucky Weekend, a Machine-Shuffle Mini Prix Weekend, and a Team Battle Weekend. These events offer players bonus ticket points and EXP, adding incentives to participate during these specific times.
To sum up, the Version 1.4.0 update for F-Zero 99 not only refreshes the game with new content and features but also enriches the overall player experience with enhancements that allow for greater expression, competition, and customization. This update promises to bring players back to the race track with renewed enthusiasm, ensuring the legacy of F-Zero continues to thrive on the modern gaming platform. As with previous updates, Nintendo demonstrates its commitment to improving gameplay and keeping the community engaged with innovative and enjoyable content.
