Halloween season is approaching, and The Simpsons, with its popular tradition of the Treehouse of Horror episode that airs every year, holds a significant place in the hearts of the animated series' fans. This year, the makers have something special up their sleeve. The 2023 Treehouse of Horror installment, like its previous counterparts, will be broken into three themed segments. The highlight of the season 35's Horror episode is a segment inspired by the iconic horror-thriller film, The Silence of the Lambs, by Jonathan Demme.
The official synopsis, as described by Bloody Disgusting, unfolds an exciting sequence of events. Bart gets converted to an NFT and to save him, Marge has to navigate through the complexities of a blockchain. In a different storyline, Lisa uses her instincts to track down a serial killer and interestingly collaborates with an antagonist from her past. The last part of the episode depicts the Springfield inhabitants transforming into a swarm of relaxed, beer-addicted individuals.
Pictures reveal a virtual maze through which Marge wanders, Homer engaging in his usual antics of chasing colossal donuts, and an adult Lisa consulting with Springfield's notorious criminal, Sideshow Bob. The last part of the episode is assumed to parody The Silence of the Lambs, which featured Sir Anthony Hopkins as a cannibal named Hannibal Lecter.
In the previous year, Simpson's fans were treated with two Halloween specials for its 34th season – the usual tripartite episode and a single parody episode based on Stephen King's IT. The recent decision to integrate another horror film reference isn't surprising, considering the success of the previous episodes.
However, devotees of the frightfully humorous series will have to hold their anticipation a bit longer as the Treehouse of Horror 35 is set to premiere at the beginning of November, soon after the Halloween festivities conclude. Treehouse of Horror XXXIV is scheduled to play on Fox on the 5th November, with next-day streaming availability on Hulu.
