As the current year draws to a close, excitement builds amongst Pokémon Go fans as they eagerly anticipate the upcoming New Year's celebration. Niantic has announced grand plans for ringing in 2024, promising an immersive experience that aligns with the annual festivities they've cultivated within the immersive world of Pokémon Go.
Starting January 1st at 10 am and extending until January 3rd at 8 pm local time, the New Year's 2024 event will transform Pokémon Go into a festal arena. This event will be accessible to players across the globe, inviting them to revel in the beginning of a new year alongside their favorite creatures.
The spotlight shines on Jigglypuff and Wigglytuff, two beloved Pokémon that will debut new looks featuring ribbons, adding a touch of celebration to their appearances. Trainers will be on the lookout for these costume-wearing Pokémon, including Shiny variants that may make rare appearances.
In addition to these Pokémon in new attires, players can expect to encounter a variety of themed wild Pokémon. These include Hoothoot donning a festive New Year's outfit, as well as Darumaka and Bronzor among others. These special creature sightings provide trainers with unique opportunities to capture and commemorate the holiday season.
Moreover, the in-game skies will sparkle with fireworks, enhancing the festive mood as players explore and engage with the world of Pokémon Go. Decorations will be scattered throughout the game, creating an environment that truly celebrates the excitement and potential of a new year.
This event is not just about the visual fanfare; it also offers rewarding bonuses to all trainers. In a bid to make egg hatching more appealing during the event, any eggs placed in incubators will hatch at half the distance typically required. For trainers who utilize the egg hatching widget, the first three eggs they place will hatch at even a quarter of the distance.
Understanding that not all players can engage with the game in the same manner, Niantic has included a paid Timed Research that will be available for just $1.00 or the regional equivalent. This feature will allow interested trainers to take on exclusive quests with a wide array of rewards awaiting them. These include in-game rewards like Stardust and XP, in addition to PokéCoins and encounters with event-exclusive Pokémon such as a Wurmple donning a party hat.
For those who prefer to complete tasks at their own pace, Field Research tasks will also become available during the event. The completion of these tasks will offer players stardust and the chance for special encounters, providing everyone an opportunity to be part of the New Year’s spectacle.
Of course, no event would be complete without the ability to dress up for the occasion, and in this spirit, the game will offer a new Darumaka Hat that can be acquired from the in-game shop. Complementing this, a New Year’s box will be offered for 99 PokéCoins, enticingly packed with an Incubator and a Premium Battle Pass.
As trainers around the world prepare to welcome 2024, Niantic is crafting Pokémon Go into a hub of joyful celebration and communal excitement. The New Year's event is an invitation to step into a world of augmented reality where the wonders of Pokémon and the magic of the holidays merge into an unforgettable adventure. Players, old and new, are encouraged to download Pokémon Go, if they haven't yet, and to set off into a new year filled with exploration, community, and the boundless delight of collecting Pokémon.
