Overwatch's newest season has arrived with the kind of enormous balance update that can reshape both individual heroes and the team compositions built around them. The patch introduces the new Support hero Doctrine, substantially remakes Roadhog and Sombra, adjusts several other members of the roster, and changes hit volumes across a wide range of characters.

But among all of those headline changes, one particularly entertaining hero combination has been directly shut down: Cassidy can no longer use his High Noon ultimate while attached to Jetpack Cat's Lifeline tether.

The change ends an aerial setup that let the gunslinger take to the sky while charging High Noon. Since Cassidy's ultimate locks onto visible opponents and eliminates them once enough damage has been charged, lifting him above the battlefield could give him unusually clear sightlines over enemies attempting to take cover. It was a powerful maneuver, but also one that created the sort of spectacular, chaotic moments that players tend to remember.

High Noon is now grounded when Jetpack Cat is involved

Jetpack Cat is a Support hero added during Overwatch's broader effort to bring 10 new characters to the roster over the course of the year. Her defining Lifeline ability lets her tether to an ally and fly with them around the map. That movement option can help teammates reach high ground, cross dangerous spaces, or create unexpected angles of attack.

Cassidy became one of the clearest beneficiaries of that mobility. While his High Noon requires line of sight and leaves him vulnerable as it charges, a Jetpack Cat-assisted ascent could remove many of the map obstacles that normally limit its potential. Enemies beneath him had fewer places to hide, while Cassidy gained a dramatic aerial firing position.

The new patch specifically prevents that interaction. Once Cassidy activates High Noon, he cannot attach to Jetpack Cat's Lifeline. In the opposite situation, if he is already tethered and then uses the ultimate, the pair will not be able to maintain the airborne combination.

"Lifeline can create unique interactions with several ultimates, but its combination with High Noon has proven too powerful at repositioning Cassidy to eliminate targets," Blizzard explained in its developer comments. "High Noon will now prevent Cassidy from attaching to Lifeline. We will continue evaluating other interactions on a case-by-case basis."

The language is notable because it leaves the door open for further tweaks to Lifeline interactions. Jetpack Cat's ability has obvious synergy with heroes who value elevation and mobility, and the patch does not apply a blanket restriction to every ultimate. For now, the intervention is limited to High Noon.

That means other airborne setups remain part of the game. Soldier: 76, for example, can still benefit from high ground while using Tactical Visor, even if that ultimate differs substantially from High Noon in its damage pattern and counterplay. Ashe's B.O.B. can also be repositioned through the tether. Cassidy's combination appears to have crossed the balance line because High Noon can translate that repositioning into quick, lethal eliminations when opponents remain exposed.

Roadhog gets a new role beyond the hook combo

Roadhog receives one of the patch's largest redesigns. The stated objective is to reduce the frustration tied to Chain Hook's lethality while giving the Tank more ways to protect teammates and influence a fight without relying entirely on a one-shot-style sequence.

His Scrap Gun primary fire now launches two bursts per volley. Ammo rises from six to 12, total volley damage increases from 175 to 204, and a larger central projectile is added to each shot. At the same time, the critical damage multiplier falls from 2x to 1.5x, pellet count drops from 25 to 16, and individual pellet damage is reduced. The weapon's spread is tighter and projectile speed is faster, but its falloff begins sooner.

The old secondary fire is gone. In its place is Trash Compactor, an ability that absorbs projectiles in front of Roadhog for two seconds. At the end of the effect, Roadhog fires an explosive projectile whose damage is based on how much incoming damage was absorbed. It can deal from 75 to 200 damage, with an additional 10 damage on impact. The ability has a 10-second cooldown in 5v5 and an 11-second cooldown in 6v6, while Roadhog suffers a 15% movement-speed penalty during its use.

Chain Hook itself is less punishing at close range. The pulled target's stun duration is reduced from 0.4 seconds to 0.3 seconds, and enemies now end up 4.5 meters away rather than three meters away. However, Hook's cooldown is lowered by one second in both 5v5 and 6v6.

Take A Breather is shorter but more concentrated: its maximum duration falls to two seconds, healing per second rises to 200 from 150, damage reduction dips to 35% from 40%, and cooldown increases to two seconds. Roadhog also gets new perks. Here, Piggy Piggy greatly reduces Chain Hook's cooldown during Whole Hog, while Toxic Exhaust lets Trash Compactor slow enemies in front of him and inflict damage over time.

In practical terms, Roadhog should have more defensive utility against projectile pressure and more reason to make timing-based plays for his team, even as his traditional hook-and-delete threat becomes less reliable.

Sombra moves from Damage to Support

The other massive rework belongs to Sombra, who has been moved from the Damage role to Support. Her new position is Tactician, and her progression requirements for minor and major perks are significantly higher than before.

Most importantly, Hack has been removed as a standard ability. The long-running source of frustration around Sombra was often the sudden loss of access to a player's abilities. The new design aims to preserve her disruptive identity without completely locking targets out of their kit.

Her replacement tools give her healing and area control. Hotfix, assigned to secondary fire, heals an ally for 65 immediate health and then 25 health per second until it delivers 175 total healing or 12 seconds pass. It has two charges, an eight-second cooldown, a 17-meter range, and can be used while Sombra is stealthed, though she is temporarily revealed. Hotfix can also affect health packs and most enemy deployables, with those uses operating on a separate six-second cooldown.

Virus has also been removed. Ability 1 is now Cyberspace, a projectile that creates a three-second zone on impact. The initial burst damages enemies for 40 and heals allies for 40. Within the area, enemies take 25 damage per second and allies receive 30 healing per second. Enemies inside are inflicted with Weaken, a new status effect that cuts their own damage and healing output by 50%.

Sombra's Translocator receives further adjustments: Stealth lasts longer at 6.5 seconds, but takes longer to activate, Translocator range is reduced, and cooldown rises to 7.5 seconds. Her new Conspirator passive reveals enemies with fully charged ultimates. New perks allow EMP to apply Hotfix to nearby allies, reduce Hotfix cooldown after health-pack hacks, or double Cyberspace healing for allies below half health.

Her EMP also costs 67.5% more ultimate charge and now deals 20% of a target's current health rather than 25%. The result is a Sombra whose value is much more explicitly tied to ally sustain, battlefield debuffs, information, and tactical disruption.

Broader balance and aiming changes arrive with the season

The update includes several smaller hero changes. D.Va's Micro Missiles fire faster, allowing her to unload the same volley more quickly. Bastion's Reconfigure duration is reduced from six seconds to five. Genji's Swift Strike damage rises from 50 to 60, while Dragonblade damage drops from 110 to 100 and its swing speed increases by 15%.

Lucio regains a second on Sound Barrier's duration, bringing it to six seconds, while Ana replaces the Groggy minor perk with Local Anesthetic. The new Ana option makes Sleep Dart explode on impact, slowing nearby enemies and dealing 45 damage over three seconds.

Doctrine, the newly introduced Support, is also adjusted after performing too well during the trial weekend. His ultimate cost rises by 8%, Invigorating Drones loses some attack-speed power, Shrouded Momentum has a longer cooldown and lower damage reduction, and Deliverance applies its effects more quickly but for less total time.

Finally, the patch makes a broad pass on hero hit volumes, intended to make targeting feel more consistent across the roster. Many heroes receive larger head, torso, or leg hit volumes, while some specific body parts are reduced. Global hitscan projectile sizes are also reduced to account for those hit-detection changes.

For Cassidy and Jetpack Cat players, though, the most immediate difference is simple: the cowboy's days of raining High Noon from a flying feline taxi are over. The patch may make matches healthier from a competitive perspective, but it also removes one of the season's most eye-catching improvised team plays.
