Despite being captured through shaky, off-screen footage, the upcoming game Wuthering Waves exhibits promising performance on Sony’s PS5 during a preview.

New RPG Wuthering Waves Teased on PS5

The gaming community recently received its first glance at 'Wuthering Waves,' an open-world RPG from Kuro Games, albeit in less-than-ideal circumstances. The footage, captured and shared from an off-screen source, was shaky and unclear, leading to its unofficial nickname of being "filmed on a potato." Yet, despite these drawbacks, the initial impression of the game’s mechanics and aesthetics is surprisingly positive.

'Wuthering Waves' is set to make its official gameplay debut on the PlayStation 5 at ChinaJoy 2024 in Shanghai, an event that draws attention from gaming enthusiasts and professionals around the globe. The snippet of gameplay that has circulated online before the event was a brief combat demonstration, captured hastily by an attendee. This unofficial preview may not do justice to the full technological capabilities of the PS5 or the detailed design work by Kuro Games, yet the smoothness of the character movements and battle interactions give a hopeful glimpse of the game’s potential.

The video clip, though of poor quality, does not show any noticeable lags or glitches, which is a good sign for its development progress. Observers in the clip noted smooth animations and responsive controls, essential components for an immersive RPG experience. The demo did not showcase the game’s open-world exploration, which is a pivotal element that will likely be more demanding on the PS5’s hardware.

It's interesting to note that this game has been on the radar for some time. Kuro Games had previously announced that they were working on converting 'Wuthering Waves' for console play, originally developed for PC, at an Unreal Engine event in China. The movement to console, particularly to a next-gen system like the PlayStation 5, has been eagerly anticipated by fans of the genre.
