MultiVersus, the free-to-play platform fighter, relaunches with updates including a new game engine, additional modes, and new characters, now ready to play on PS5 and PS4.

MultiVersus Returns, Enhanced and Free on PS5 and PS4

After a brief hiatus to address several gameplay issues and overhaul its system, MultiVersus is making a grand re-entry into the gaming world. Developed by WB Games and Player First Games, this popular free-to-play platform fighter is now available for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 users. Players can download it from the PlayStation Store or simply update the previously installed version on their consoles.

MultiVersas first captured the attention of gamers when it was released as an open beta in 2022. It quickly became a favorite due to its engaging combat mechanics and an intriguing roster of characters from various Warner Bros franchises. However, as more people played the game, flaws began to surface, including slow updates and unreliable net code which often impacted gameplay negatively.

In June 2023, the developers decided to pull the open beta offline for a major overhaul, a move that was met with mixed reactions from the gaming community. Many were concerned about the investments they had made in the game, such as purchasing premium battle passes and cosmetics. After several months of intensive work and improvements, MultiVersus has launched once again with substantial upgrades aimed at enhancing player experience.

One of the standout changes in the new version of MultiVersus is the engine transition from Unreal 4 to the more robust Unreal 5. This switch not only improves the game's graphics and performance but also provides a more stable platform for future updates and expansions. Alongside the engine upgrade, the game now features a new player-versus-environment mode called Rifts, which offers a different style of gameplay compared to the typical player-versus-player combat.

The combat system itself has received considerable attention in this new release. Players can now enjoy improved combat balance with new mechanics such as parrying, which adds an extra layer of strategy to fights. The Perks system, which allows customization of character abilities, has also been revamped to offer more meaningful choices to players. Additionally, the battle pass system has been overhauled to make it more rewarding.

Adding to the excitement, three new fighters have joined the MultiVersus lineup: Banana Guard from Adventure Time, iconic comic villain The Joker, and horror legend Jason Voorhees. A fourth character, Agent Smith from The Matrix, is slated to join the roster later in Season 1. These new additions are sure to bring fresh tactics and enjoyment to the battles.

For newcomers, completing the game's tutorial unlocks a seven-day reward calendar, starting with free access to Banana Guard. Players who participated in the open beta and return to the game will be treated to a free premium battle pass if they log in by the specified deadline, alongside a special new costume for the character Finn.

The development team has ensured that players who return will find all their previous unlocks and purchases intact, ensuring that investments made before the overhaul are not lost. This thoughtful consideration is part of the developers' effort to regain trust and provide a better gaming environment for their community.

As MultiVersus steps back into the spotlight, the revamped features, new content additions, and technical enhancements promise a richer and more engaging experience for both returning players and newcomers. Whether you're a seasoned fighter or just curious about the updates, MultiVersus invites you to dive back into its dynamic world and explore all the new features it has to offer.
