Marvel's television and animation slate received a substantial update during New York Comic Con 2026, with new footage, release information, returning characters and an entirely new Disney Plus project all revealed during the presentation. The major developments ranged from Daredevil: Born Again season 3's Defenders-focused direction to a surprise Venom appearance in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 2, while X-Men '97 set the stage for an unstable mutant future and an important mutant wedding.
Elsewhere, Marvel confirmed that its animated horror experiment Marvel Zombies will continue in a different format than expected, with three specials planned across three Halloweens. The studio also formally announced Marvel Zodiac, a live-action spy thriller expected to arrive in 2028.
For a screen universe that has been navigating a transitional period, the event offered a clearer picture of what is ahead. Not every detail is public yet--much of the footage was shown exclusively to attendees--but the announcements outline a mix of street-level superheroes, alternate-universe animation, mutant drama and horror-driven storytelling.

Daredevil: Born Again season 3 brings the Defenders back together
The biggest live-action reveal centered on Daredevil: Born Again season 3, which has been confirmed as the final season of the revival series. The presentation reunited the Defenders on stage: Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock, Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones, Mike Colter's Luke Cage and Finn Jones' Iron Fist. Colter was initially missed during the introduction before joining the group, completing the team that last united onscreen in the 2017 Netflix crossover.

Cox also addressed the passionate #SaveDaredevil fan movement when asked about the show's final season. He suggested that supporters should be ready to mobilize, joking about the force of the campaign's community without providing a direct indication that the ending could be reversed or extended.
Marvel also shared a first look at exclusive season 3 footage. The preview reportedly showed the other Defenders operating in a government building, though Matt Murdock was absent from that sequence. The footage then moved to Matt in prison, where Bullseye triggers an explosion. Matt appears to fashion a makeshift Daredevil outfit from his orange prison uniform before taking part in a brutally intense fight.
"I made a choice to pay for my so-called crimes of stopping a madman from turning the city into his own personal kingdom," Matt says in the footage's voiceover. "And if that is the bargain, I will pay for that choice every time."
The material points to a season with high personal stakes for Matt, including incarceration, the re-emergence of Bullseye and a narrative reason for the wider Defenders roster to enter the conflict. Given the show's status as a final season, its return to the core Netflix-era heroes could make it both a conclusion for the revival and a significant reunion for Marvel's street-level corner.
The season has also faced reported behind-the-scenes uncertainty. Dario Scardapane, who helped reshape the first season into a more direct continuation of the earlier Daredevil series, reportedly left during post-production after his contract was not renewed. The newly shown material does not resolve questions about the production situation, but it does establish that Marvel is positioning season 3 as a major event for these characters.
Venom joins Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man
Marvel also unveiled the first poster for Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 2. Its most prominent revelation is Venom's involvement in the animated alternate-universe Spider-Man story. The symbiote is one of Peter Parker's defining comic-book adversaries and allies, so its addition offers an immediate clue that the new episodes may take the young hero into much darker territory.
The poster lists a January 13, 2026 release date. Earlier pre-panel status information had identified the season only as a January 2027 release, making the timing presented during the event notable. Marvel did not provide further clarification during the announcements captured from the panel.
Season 2 has already been expected to introduce Gwen Stacy, with the possibility of a Spider-Gwen direction among the possibilities raised by the show's alternate setting. Venom's confirmation does not explain exactly how the character fits into this version of the world, whether the symbiote will have a familiar host, or how central it will be to the season. Those are questions the series' future trailers will need to answer.
X-Men '97 heads toward social unrest and Rogue and Gambit's wedding
Exclusive footage from X-Men '97 season 3 suggested that the animated mutant saga will move into an era of severe anti-mutant pressure. The sequence reportedly opened with someone painting the words "Where are the X-Men" on a wall, before moving through shots of public unrest. Mutants appear to be facing restrictions on travel and documentation, establishing a hostile political landscape.
A Sentinel then attacks a mutant, only for the Brotherhood to intervene. The footage also showed Storm and Professor Xavier traveling by limousine and discussing the state of the United States under an anti-mutant president. Their journey leads to a far warmer moment amid the tension: Rogue and Gambit's wedding.
The guest list includes She-Hulk, underscoring the potential scale of the occasion and suggesting that Marvel is willing to bring together characters from different parts of its animated continuity. A wedding for Rogue and Gambit is especially meaningful for longtime X-Men readers and viewers, given the pair's enduring, complicated relationship across decades of stories.
Season 3 follows a run that has pushed the team through enormous upheaval, including the Age of Apocalypse storyline. Mystique is expected to become a major threat in the upcoming episodes, and the new footage indicates that the conflict will not be restricted to a single villain. Political anxiety, Sentinels, missing heroes and division within mutant society may all become part of the season's larger challenge.
Marvel Zombies will continue as three Halloween specials
Rather than announcing a conventional second season, Marvel revealed a trilogy of new Marvel Zombies specials. Brad Winderbaum, Marvel's Head of Streaming, Television and Animation, confirmed that director Bryan Andrews is returning for all three projects. Andrews previously worked on What If...? as well as the existing Marvel Zombies material.
- Marvel Zombies: The Winter Soldier is scheduled for Halloween 2027.
- Marvel Zombies: The Fist of Khonshu follows in 2028.
- Marvel Zombies: The Last Guardian is planned for Halloween 2029.
Winderbaum described the final special as the culmination of the storyline but declined to identify the Last Guardian. He said the project is about halfway through the animatics stage and characterized the ongoing series as both visually bloody and unexpectedly beautiful. The decision to release individual specials annually may give Marvel Zombies more room to function as a recurring Halloween destination, rather than requiring fans to wait for a full episodic season.
The original storyline left Ms. Marvel apparently trapped within a construct controlled by Zombie Wanda, leaving ample unresolved territory for the next chapter. The title The Winter Soldier identifies at least one major figure set to be central to the first new special, while The Fist of Khonshu strongly points toward a Moon Knight-related focus for the second.
Marvel Zodiac is the next live-action Disney Plus project on the board
Marvel used the panel to formally announce Marvel Zodiac, described as a spy thriller. The show is set to begin filming in London in the spring and is expected to debut on Disney Plus in 2028. The announcement confirms a project that had previously been discussed under the code name Zodiac.
An official logo was shown during the event, and Winderbaum said that fans of the comics should look closely because it contains hidden details. Casting announcements are expected to begin within the next few weeks, which should offer the first meaningful clues about the project's characters, comic-book inspiration and place within Marvel's broader live-action plans.
The reveal is important because, after Daredevil: Born Again season 3, Marvel had no other officially announced live-action Disney Plus series in active view. Marvel Zodiac gives the studio a confirmed next step, though its 2028 window means it remains a long-term prospect rather than an immediate follow-up.
VisionQuest is next on the immediate schedule
While the convention spotlight largely belonged to future projects, VisionQuest remains Marvel's closest upcoming television premiere. The Vision-centered series arrives Wednesday, October 14, and will run for eight episodes. It follows the events of WandaVision and Agatha All Along, completing what has been presented as a trilogy of connected stories.
Paul Bettany returns as Vision, while James Spader reprises Ultron in human form. Marvel also displayed a new poster for the series during the convention activity, emphasizing its unusual visual style ahead of launch.
Together, the NYCC news paints a varied roadmap: Vision's immediate return, Daredevil's final battle alongside the Defenders, Spider-Man's collision with Venom, escalating danger for the X-Men, annual animated zombie horror and a new espionage story waiting in the wings. Marvel has not answered every question about its television future, but the slate now has considerably more shape than it did before the panel began.
