Super Mario Party Jamboree outperforms new releases in Japan, maintaining the top spot in weekly sales, as new titles flood the market but fail to surpass the popular party game.

Mario Party Jamboree Tops Japanese Sales Chart

The gaming landscape in Japan has seen a bustling week filled with numerous new game releases. Despite the competitive influx, Super Mario Party Jamboree has impressively maintained its position at the pinnacle of sales charts. According to the latest data from Famitsu, this Nintendo Switch title continues to captivate and entertain a vast audience, securing the number one spot with significant sales figures.

During the week spanning October 21st to 27th, Super Mario Party Jamboree sold 81,393 units, bringing its total sales to an impressive 308,962 units. This strong performance underscores the game's appeal and its continued dominance in the Japanese market. It's noteworthy that while multiple new games launched in the same period, none could dethrone the reigning champion.

Among the new releases, Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven made a notable entry. This game, available on both the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5, had cumulative sales that posed a substantial challenge to Mario's top spot. The Switch version alone sold 70,367 units, while the PlayStation 5 version added another 32,157 units. If combined, these figures would surpass those of Super Mario Party Jamboree, highlighting the divided success across different platforms.

Other games such as Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8 Remake also made their debut on the charts. Call of Duty, on the PlayStation 5, sold 26,947 units, showing that even global franchises continue to find their audience in Japan. Romance of the Three Kingdoms, another historically popular series in Japan, saw its latest remake perform decently with 12,411 sales on the Switch and 7,133 on the PlayStation 5.

The charts also reflected some interest in sports and adventure genres. Professional Baseball Spirits 2024-2025, a simulation game that feeds into Japan's love for baseball, has accumulated a total of 79,260 sales on the PlayStation 5 since its release. On the fantasy adventure front, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom secured its place with 7,567 new sales adding up to a total of 288,879 units.

Rounding out the top ten was Sonic X Shadow Generations for the Nintendo Switch. With 7,021 units sold, it’s evident that the Sonic series, while a legendary name in video gaming, doesn’t quite match the popularity in Japan as it does in Western markets.

In terms of hardware, the Nintendo Switch OLED model was the leading console for the week, with 46,256 units sold. This was closely followed by the Switch Lite and then the PlayStation 5. The continuing trend shows Nintendo's dominance in the Japanese console market, although the PlayStation 5 remains a strong contender.

There was little to no significant movement in Xbox sales, with both the Xbox Series S and the Digital Edition of the Xbox Series X only selling modest numbers. It indicates that, despite ongoing efforts, Xbox still faces challenges in penetrating the Japanese market, which has historically leaned towards Nintendo and Sony platforms.

Overall, the week revealed much about the preferences and trends within the Japanese gaming market. While new titles continue to emerge and vie for gamers' attention, established franchises like Mario and enduring platforms like the Nintendo Switch remain deeply ingrained in the preferences of Japanese players. The upcoming weeks will be crucial to see how new releases perform and whether any can eventually outpace the juggernauts of the gaming industry in Japan.
