The actor famous for his role as Aquaman is reportedly trading the sea for the stars, as he's in discussions for portraying the gruff intergalactic bounty hunter Lobo in James Gunn's DC Universe.

From Aquaman to Space Cowboy: Jason Momoa Goes Lobo

Hold onto your starships and say goodbye to the trident folks, because our beloved sea dweller Jason Momoa, is doing a hilarious 180-degree twist. He’s reportedly saying "Aloha" to his Aquaman role and "Howdy, partner!" to the role of Lobo, the rough and tough space cowboy in James Gunn's DC Universe.

However, don't drown in despair yet! Before Momoa trades in his scaly suit for a cigar and biker leathers, he will make one last splash as Aquaman in "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.” A victory lap, if you will.

Who is Lobo, you ask? Well, let me cue the saloon music. Also known as the 'Main Man,' Lobo is an intergalactic bounty hunter, who's as known for his foul mouth as much as his love for cigars. This delightful space ruffian was the brainchild of Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, who introduced him to the DC Universe in "Omega Men" No.3 in 1983.

Now, this ain’t Momoa's first rodeo. He's been dropping not-so-subtle hints about stepping into Lobo's biker boots for some time now. If you recall a rather cryptic Instagram video earlier this year, Momoa may as well had "Lobo" painted on his forehead. He made us all playfully scratch our heads saying, "Four years ago I was screaming, wasn’t I? It’s a mystery, baby. I’ve got some really good news, great news with Warner Bros. Wish I could tell you!"

He further coiled the rumor mill, telling ET Canada, "One of my dreams come true will be happening under their watch, so stay tuned." With 'they', he referred to the dynamic duo, James Gunn, and Peter Safran.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves though. There's yet no official announcement of a Lobo standalone film but the Cosmic Grapevine suggests Lobo might show up in "Superman: Legacy.” This is likely to be the first flick in the revamped DC Universe led by Gunn and Safran.

Well, that's all the space news I have for you today. In the meantime, don't miss Momoa's curtain call as Aquaman when "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” lands in theaters this December 20. And keep your interstellar antennas tuned in for more news about the DC universe's most intriguing upcoming movies in 2023 and beyond.

But for now, I end with this, what could be better than a (former) fish-man in space? Yeah, you're right, it's way too early for those types of questions!
