Gwendoline Christie to Narrate Sid Meier's Civilization VII

The highly anticipated game, Sid Meier’s Civilization VII, is set to take the gaming world by storm with its release on the Nintendo Switch scheduled for February 11, 2025. Announced during the Gamescom Opening Night Live showcase, this latest installment of the Civilization series promises to deliver an enhanced strategic gaming experience, with the added excitement of having English actor Gwendoline Christie as its in-game narrator.

Gwendoline Christie, renowned for her portrayal of Brienne of Tarth in the critically acclaimed television series Game of Thrones, brings a strong presence to Civilization VII. Christie's acting career, notable for her roles in major franchises such as Star Wars, where she played Captain Phasma, and her recent appearances in popular TV shows like Wednesday and The Sandman, aligns with the grandeur and intensity Civilization games are known for.

Civilization VII is being developed by Firaxis Games, a company with a storied history in creating strategy games. The Creative Director, Ed Beach, during the announcement, referred to it as “the biggest and most ambitious game” the studio has ever attempted. The Civilization series allows players to build empires spanning centuries, from the Stone Age to the Information Age, making strategic decisions that affect the development of their civilization through diplomacy, warfare, and technological advancement.

The enthusiasm for this new entry is bolstered not only by Christie's involvement but also by Firaxis's reputation for delivering depth and complexity in gameplay. Civilization VI, the predecessor in the series, was well-received, particularly for its robust gameplay and strategic diversity. It landed a coveted 9/10 in reviews and set a high benchmark for its successor. The introduction of Civilization VII to the Nintendo Switch adds a layer of accessibility and mobility, allowing players to engage in intricate empire-building anytime, anywhere.

During the Gamescom event, which showcases up-and-coming games, there were a few notable mentions besides Civilization VII. These include the announcement of Little Nightmares III and a unique game titled Floatopia, both garnering interest from the gaming community. However, the spotlight was undeniably on Civilization VII, capturing the attention of strategy gaming enthusiasts eagerly awaiting its release.
