The thrill of hunting or being hunted by ghouls has found a new home on the Nintendo Switch eShop. The multiplayer ghost hunting game, Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed - Ecto Edition, is set to land on the Nintendo platform on October 19th. This announcement comes from the publisher and developer Illfonic, after initially launching the game on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC last year.
In Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed, players get the option to engage in exciting "hide and seek"-style games as either a Ghostbuster or a Ghost, a concept based on a 4-vs-1 setup. This means that a group of four Proton Pack-wielding Ghostbusters squad up for the challenge to capture a single elusive Ghost. This dynamic can be likened to the Luigi's Mansion minigame in Nintendo Land, where players hunt for a single ghost in a darkened mansion.
This game offers both online and offline play options, and to augment players' single-player experiences, the game comes equipped with an AI opponent. This offers players the chance to finesse their Ghost-hunting or Ghost-posing tactics before heading into multiplayer terrains.
The Nintendo Switch's Ecto Edition features the base title and all four of its DLC packages. The developers at Illfonic also claim the game will run at 30fps in 720p handheld and 1080p when the Switch is docked.
As players delve into this ghostly universe, they will encounter unique locales for ghost encounters during asymmetrical multiplayer battles. This wild exploration is accompanied by a system of rewards as players unlock cosmetics and upgrades for both Ghostbusters and Ghosts to enhance their gameplay experiences.
Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed Ecto Edition harkens back to the beloved series, complete with all the iconic gear and gadgets such as Proton Packs, PKE Meters, and Ghost Traps. Players assuming the role of a Ghost also have an array of abilities such as the power of possessing objects and, unsurprisingly, the ability to slime their opponents.
The game pays homage to its roots, featuring recognizable settings such as the Firehouse and Ray’s Occult Books that function as the game’s hub. This is where players choose missions, customize their characters, practice with their proton packs, and delve into further in-game secrets.
Voicing familiar roles from the original films, original actors reprise their roles - Ray Stantz and Winston Zeddemore, along with a few new voices thrown into the mix.
Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed Ecto Edition is available for pre-order from the Switch eShop for £17.99 / $19.99.
