Star actor, Austin Butler shared candid insights about his recent character portrayal of the unforgettably fierce, Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen in "Dune: Part Two" — the sci-fi sequel by renowned director, Denis Villeneuve. His revelations coincide with the date initially set for the film's release, which was subsequently delayed.
Butler described feeling ongoing anxiety and pressure about his role. He confessed to always seeking to exceed his own expectations, a challenge he's been familiar with since he was 12. While trying to exceed these expectations, a sense of dread that he might fail to capture some important detail always hangs over him, he admitted.
This feeling of unease was more pronounced with 'Dune.' Butler went on to explain the early stages of his involvement with the film, when it was still without a script. Conversations about his character and his initial meeting with director, Denis Villeneuve, triggered his imagination and concurrently, a sense of daunting challenge. This fresh experience he disclosed, informed his decision making.
Dune: Part Two was initially scheduled to premiere on October 20. The date was moved to November before being further rescheduled to next March due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA actors' strike. Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, Butler's character, is the heir and nephew of Baron Harkonnen, portrayed by Stellan Skarsgård. The film trailers show a sneak peek of his villainous—and bald—version of Feyd-Rautha.
In the conversation with his co-star, Josh Brolin, Butler further expressed that working on Dune posed a stark difference to his previous roles, as well as to his portrayal of Elvis. He stated, "Denis is one of the greatest filmmakers alive, so the idea of getting to work with him, and then you [Brolin], and all of the cast was so exciting for me". This opportunity has offered him a unique platform to learn, adapt, and stimulate his creative thought processes.
Finally, the much anticipated Dune: Part Two is set to storm theaters on March 15, 2024. Movie lovers eagerly awaiting the release of this sequel can, in the meantime, explore some of the other exciting upcoming films. Indeed, the delay only seems to be ramping up the suspense and anticipation for moviegoers across the globe.
