Dead by Daylight announces expansions including a larger 10-player mode, collaborations with Dungeons & Dragons and Castlevania, and introduces a new spin-off story.

Dead by Daylight Expands to 10 Players, Adds New Content

Asymmetric horror game Dead by Daylight, known for its thrilling gameplay and suspenseful atmosphere, is gearing up to celebrate its eighth anniversary with a slate of exciting updates and collaborations. The game, which has consistently expanded its universe since its launch, is now set to introduce content that includes notable crossovers with Dungeons & Dragons and Castlevania, as well as a fresh gameplay format that increases the player count and changes the core mechanics.

Dead by Daylight has primarily operated on a 1v4 gameplay model, where one player takes on the role of the Killer trying to catch four Survivors before they can escape the map. However, the developers have announced a significant shift with a new 2v8 Game Mode. In this updated format, the dynamics of the game will change drastically, featuring two Killers and eight Survivors. This mode not only doubles the player interaction but also introduces a class system to replace the traditional Perks and implements Cages as alternatives to the standard Hooks for capturing Survivors. Fans eager to learn more about this should stay tuned for the upcoming details to be revealed in a July livestream.

In addition to gameplay changes, Dead by Daylight is expanding its horror universe through collaborations with other iconic horror and fantasy franchises. The upcoming expansion welcomes Dungeons & Dragons into its fold, featuring the feared villain Vecna as a new Killer. Accompanying Vecna in the sinister lineup will be a character class familiar to D&D fans—the Bard—as a new Survivor. This crossover promises to blend the dark, atmospheric elements of Dead by Daylight with the rich lore and adventure-driven spirit of Dungeons & Dragons.

Another intriguing collaboration is with Konami’s Castlevania series. While details remain sparse, this partnership will likely bring the gothic horror and vampire-hunting themes of Castlevania into the eerie world of Dead by Daylight later in the year. This crossover is expected to offer fans a unique blend of both gaming universes, each known for their distinctive style of horror and storytelling.

Moreover, for fans of narrative-driven single-player experiences, the developers are introducing "The Casting of Frank Stone," a spin-off from the horror narrative game Until Dawn. This story involves a group of teenagers who decide to shoot a movie in a haunted mill, arguably the worst location choice given their circumstances. The game will follow the traditional branching narrative format, allowing player choices to influence the outcome of the story. This expansion could attract a new audience to Dead by Daylight, appealing to players who prefer story over competitive gameplay.
