In a major step for gaming, Sega announced a long-awaited home port of Daytona USA 2 through a new game titled Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name.

Daytona USA 2 Secures Home Port Via Like a Dragon Gaiden

Fans of Daytona USA, one of the most successful arcade games, have been waiting nearly three decades for a home port of its sequel, Daytona USA 2: Battle on the Edge. The wait is now officially over, with the announcement by Sega that the home port will be available via the upcoming game - Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name.

Daytona USA broke grounds when it debuted and it's not uncommon to see units in the wild even today, testament to its popularity. The game received ports to the Saturn and Dreamcast, eventually making its way to PS3 and Xbox 360 as a digital download. However, its sequel, Daytona USA 2, didn't share the same fate. Released in 1998, it never got a home port despite being a favourite among fans.

Now, thanks to the Like a Dragon Gaiden game series, Daytona USA 2 will see its first home port, albeit under a different name, Sega Racing Classic 2. The name change was due to the expiration of Sega's deal with Daytona Speedway, but this won't impact the game's experience expected by fans.

The game creators of the Yakuza / Like a Dragon series have a tradition of including Sega arcade machines. Previous versions have included Sega stablemate Shenmue, which shares many parallels with the Yakuza franchise. Like a Dragon Gaiden is going to continue this tradition, including not just Daytona USA 2 but also Fighting Vipers 2, and the Master System ports of Flicky and Galaxy Force.

Fighting Vipers 2 is another cult favourite which fans will be excited to see included in the game. The new game will also feature retro offerings such as Flicky and Galaxy Force, promising a nostalgia-filled gaming experience for fans of the classic Sega games.

Set to reach gaming enthusiasts on the 9th of November, 2023, Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name will be available on PS5, Xbox Series S/X, and PC platforms. The news has thrilled gaming fans who are eagerly looking forward to playing these iconic games in a new and exciting format.

While the availability of Daytona USA 2 and Fighting Vipers 2 as home ports showcases the long-standing tradition of the producers, it also opens doors to a variety of possibilities for the future of arcade gaming. It is hoped that the success of these games will lead to more classic games being brought to modern platforms, thereby ensuring the longevity and relevance of these iconic games.

Undoubtedly, the inclusion of these much-loved Sega classics in a cutting-edge game like Like a Dragon Gaiden is a win-win for both the developers and the gaming enthusiasts. Merging the old with the new in such a way allows the legacy of these games to live on, while offering fans a fresh twist on their favourite franchises. The gaming world will keenly await the release and the impact it will make on the gaming landscape.
