Dataminers find an intriguing scene hinting towards significant shifts and futuristic settings; Fans weigh in on theories surrounding the game's narrative roadmap.

Assassin's Creed: Mirage Fuels Future Plot Speculation

Fans of the long-standing Assassin's Creed series, known as much for its historic settings as its deeply interwoven narratives, may have a reason to anticipate exciting changes in its chapters to come. Dataminers have dug out an unused cutscene from Assassin’s Creed: Mirage, consequently setting off a barrage of fan speculation around the game's future.

The scene, discovered within the program of Mirage’s gameplay, is intriguingly labeled with a filename suggesting a future game, Assassin’s Creed Neo. It features a futuristic antenna amid the game’s quintessential historic desert setting, accompanied by voiceovers by characters known as the 'Animus Operators'. What spikes the intrigue further, is the dialogue within this scene. The mention of our 21st century as "ancient history" suggests that the scene, and potentially the upcoming games, could be set in the far future.

Moreover, the scene also references an event called "The Great Shift" that supposedly transpired in the game series’ rendition of the 21st century. While Ubisoft, the publisher, has yet to confirm the authenticity of this scene, or disclose why it may have been discarded from the final game, the curiosity among fans is intensifying.

The speculation is ripe on the Assassin’s Creed subreddit. User Selection3209 suggests that the new scene might tie into a part from a previous game, Valhalla, where the protagonist Layla talks about studying simulations where another key character, Desmond, didn't save the world. This could potentially foreshadow the premise of Assassin’s Creed Hexe, another game in the series.

In an even more exhilarating theory, Redditor eldenbond postulates that our gameplay persona in itself may be an Animus Operator, reliving Desmond’s memories. They also suggest that this could allow Ubisoft to reintroduce older characters to the series. An addition of another layer to the premise, however, could risk making the narrative confusing, as eldenbond admits.

Another fan, tisbruce, takes a more pragmatic stance, speculating that Ubisoft might just be pushing the contemporary content into the future, in response to fans' long-standing wish for a modern-day game set.

With such absorbing theories swirling in the air, everybody awaits Ubisoft's next move, particularly the release of Assassin's Creed Red, rumored to be due next year. Ubisoft’s promising project, Assassin’s Creed: Infinity, which is said to serve as a hub to connect the historical narratives, remains shrouded with speculation, adding to the thrilling anticipation.

Nevertheless, whether we discuss multiverses, time jumps, or memories within memories, Ubisoft and Assassin's Creed continue to push boundaries, intrigue players and, more importantly, improve their narratives, making the wait for their next move equivalent to the anticipation that precedes the turn of the next page in an absorbing thriller. The story might be labyrinthine and the plot thickening, but that's precisely what keeps fans yearning for more.
