Mighty Bomb Jack is a classic NES game that takes players on an exciting platforming adventure. The game revolves around the protagonist, Jack, as he travels through various levels collecting bombs. His ultimate goal is to conquer the demon Belzebut and save the royal Pamera family.
Each level in Mighty Bomb Jack consists of two parts: an action zone and a Royal Palace room. The Royal Palace rooms draw inspiration from the prequel to the game, Bomb Jack, featuring familiar mechanics and level designs. On the other hand, the action zones are divided into multiple segments and are filled with hidden power-ups found in treasure chests. These power-ups include money bags, Mighty Coins, and Mighty Drinks.
Mighty Coins serve different purposes depending on their color. The blue Mighty Coin allows Jack to open orange treasure chests, while the orange Mighty Coin enables him to open any treasure chest by simply touching it from the side. The green Mighty Coin transforms all enemies on the screen into valuable coins for a limited period of time. Additionally, the Mighty Drinks add 10 seconds to the game's timer, providing more time to complete each level.
Players can also discover secret passages within the action zones by locating a Sphinx hidden inside visible or cleverly concealed treasure chests. These secret passages provide additional surprises and challenges for the player.
To prevent players from becoming too greedy, the game introduces a unique feature known as the Torture Room. If the player manages to collect more than 9 Mighty Coins or allows the timer to reach 99 seconds, they will be automatically sent to the Torture Room. In order to escape without losing a life, players must complete a series of jumps within a designated time frame. Once the player successfully exits the Torture Room, they lose all Mighty Coins, the timer resets to 60 seconds, and the game resumes from the beginning of the current level.
Mighty Bomb Jack also includes a Vs. Series version, released exclusively in Japan in 1986. This version introduced a two-player mode, allowing friends to join forces on the adventure. Additionally, some secret passages were relocated, and a warp trick in the Royal Palace rooms was removed. In the NES version of the game, players could warp forward to the next Royal Palace room by touching the first lit bomb in the current room after collecting the other 23 bombs. However, if Jack died during the warping process, he would be sent back to the beginning of the level.
As a testament to its popularity, Mighty Bomb Jack made a guest appearance in Tecmo Super Bowl. Players could witness Jack's adventure unfold during the halftime show of the Super Bowl, adding an extra layer of nostalgia for fans of both games.
Embark on a thrilling journey through the pyramid, collecting bombs, power-ups, and avoiding the traps of the Torture Room in Mighty Bomb Jack. Help Jack defeat the demon Belzebut and rescue the royal Pamera family. This retro NES game promises hours of fun and challenges as you navigate through 16 captivating levels.
