Experience the thrilling sequel with new features and challenges

Arkanoid: Revenge of Doh, also known as Arkanoid 2, is an arcade game developed by Taito and released in 1987. As the sequel to the popular Arkanoid, Revenge of Doh brings new features, challenges, and an exciting storyline.

The game follows the story of the Vaus space vessel, which is once again under attack by the mysterious enemy known as DOH. Players take control of the Vaus, a paddle-like spaceship, to defeat DOH and put an end to its vengeance. In Revenge of Doh, players must navigate through 34 rounds, chosen from a total of 64, in their quest to save the Vaus.

One of the notable additions in Revenge of Doh is the introduction of Warp Gates. After completing a level or catching the Break ("B") pill, two gates appear at the bottom of the play area. Players can choose to enter either gate, and their choice will determine the version of the next level they encounter. This unique feature adds a strategic element to the game, allowing players to choose their preferred path forward.

In terms of gameplay, the fire button is now used when players catch the Laser Cannons ("L") or Catch ("C") pill, adding new ways to interact with the game and enhance their gameplay experience.

Revenge of Doh also introduces two new types of bricks. Notched silver bricks require multiple hits to be destroyed, but they have the ability to regenerate at full strength after a short period of time. Clearing a level does not necessarily require destroying all the notched bricks, offering players different options in their approach. Additionally, some bricks in the game move from side to side as long as they are not obstructed by other bricks, creating additional challenges and obstacles to overcome.

The US version of Revenge of Doh features an entirely different layout for Level 1. This unique layout includes an entire line of notched bricks, with all colored bricks above it moving from side to side. This change adds a twist to the gameplay, providing a fresh challenge for players.

As players progress through the game, they will encounter a mini-boss in the form of a giant brain. This mini-boss serves as a practice round for the ultimate battle against DOH, allowing players to hone their skills and prepare for the final showdown.

In addition to the arcade version, home versions of Revenge of Doh also included a level editor. This feature allowed players to create their own levels or modify existing ones, offering endless possibilities for customization and creativity. However, the mini-boss level and the final battle against DOH were excluded from the level editor, ensuring that these crucial moments in the game remained intact.

Arkanoid: Revenge of Doh has become a beloved classic among gamers, known for its addictive gameplay, innovative features, and challenging levels. With its unique storyline, new gameplay elements, and the ability to create custom levels, the game continues to captivate players even decades after its initial release. Whether you're a fan of the original Arkanoid or a newcomer to the series, Revenge of Doh provides an exciting and unforgettable gaming experience.
